Mad Libs the Game

Mad Libs have been helping kids sharpen their grammar skills for many years, and now you can have that same learning fun with Mad Libs: The Game. The game includes 42 sentence cards and 200 word cards. For 3 to 8 players, the game plays out simply: deal 7 word cards to each player, flip over one sentence card, and then each player chooses enough cards from their hand to fill the blanks in the sentence. Each player reads their sentence aloud, and then everyone votes on their favorite version of the sentence.

Because the parts of speech are color-coded, students do not need to already know the parts of speech to play the game. A more formal discussion of grammar may be included before or after play. This game is also great for English Language Learners who are ready to learn the finer nuances of English. To test understanding of the parts of speech and further the fun, kids can also create additional word cards for the game, stating the various forms of the word and each form's part of speech.
